أعلن المعهد القومي للبحوث الفلكية والجيوفيزيقية عن رصد هزة أرضية وقعت في الساعة الواحدة و54 دقيقة من مساء اليوم، والتي شعر بها سكان العاصمة المصرية القاهرة. ووفقًا لبيان صادر عن المعهد، فإن الهزة كانت مصدرها منطقة شرق جزيرة كريت في البحر المتوسط، وقد تم تحديد قوتها على مقياس ريختر بـ 6.4 درجة.
وفي تصريح خاص لوكالة أنباء الشرق الأوسط، أكد الدكتور طه رابح، القائم بأعمال رئيس المعهد، أن محطات الشبكة القومية لرصد الزلازل التابعة للمعهد قد رصدت الهزة الأرضية، وأنه تم إعداد بيان شامل يحتوي على تفاصيل إحداثيات الهزة.
وأضاف رابح أن المعهد قد تلقى تقارير تفيد بأن الهزة لم تُسجل أي خسائر في الأرواح أو الممتلكات، مشيرًا إلى أن السلطات المعنية تواصل متابعة الوضع للتأكد من عدم وجود تأثيرات لاحقة على المنطقة.
وبحسب المعهد، فإن الهزة الأرضية لم تؤثر بشكل كبير على الأنشطة اليومية في القاهرة، ولم يتم تسجيل أية أضرار كبيرة. كما أكدت الجهات المعنية أنها بصدد مواصلة متابعة هذه الأحداث بشكل دقيق لتقييم أي تغييرات محتملة في النشاط الزلزالي في المنطقة.
